Top 11 Mods / Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic

A PERFECT MODIFICATION MAKES your bike look better and work better, so those are the types of changes we recommend that owners perform first. Our Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic has been subjected to our tampering for about two years now and has been our test sled for dozens of changes, not all of which we opted to keep. We have made the kinds of changes that most cruiser owners probably contemplate. But with so many cosmetic and functional modifications available out there, it may be hard to decide where to spend your money. To that end, we offer this list of the changes we judged the most successful, and which we would recommend to most cruiser owners looking to get maximum bang for their modification buck. Although this is specific to our Vulcan Classic, most cruiser models will benefit from a similar series of changes. They are listed in order, with the best ones first. We were originally going to limit the list of mods to l0, but there was a three-way tie for ninth place, and we ended up with 11 items.

     MUSTANG SEAT
Even with a saddle as good as the 1500 Classic's, there is still room for comfort improvement. After trying a selection of saddles (see December'96 issue), we were most impressed with the Mustang (800/243-1392 or (860/582-9633) Studded Touring Seat ($319), which looks great and feels even better at the end of the day. If we were going to make just one change to our Vulcan, this would be it. Many bikes are helped even more by an aftermarket seat.
